It feels so good to be back home, back to writing again! The last time I posted was right before I left for South Carolina. Then, directly after that, I went to Grenada for two weeks, and the day after I left Grenada, I moved into school. The past month has been such a whirlwind, and I wanted to take a moment to share where I have been, what I’ve been up to, and what’s ahead.
⛱️South Carolina
Before heading out of the country, I spent some time in the South with my Dad’s side of the family. It was a much-needed pause, time with family, good food, and a slower and more peaceful atmosphere compared to the big city I come from. South Carolina was the first trip where my brother and I flew alone. We watched a movie almost every night during that week that we were there. Whenever I am with family, I am reminded that nothing else compares. The space and sense of peace I cultivated in the South gave me clarity and set the tone for my next trip away from home.
🌴Greenz
A couple of days later, I traveled to St. George’s, Grenada, and it was everything I needed and more. The Island is even more beautiful than it was when I visited 10 years ago. My mom was born and raised in Grenada, so of course I claim that country with my whole heart. There is so much I can say about this beautiful country and my experience, which is why my next few posts will be centered on my time there. The sunsets, tours, the local food, carnival season, and connecting with the people gave me so much joy and insight into how other countries function. My favorite part about this whole trip was 100% the quality time I got with my family, especially since it was directly before I moved into school. I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned from this trip.
🩵Starting at Spelman
The same day I landed back in NYC from Grenada, I had a flight that night to Atlanta. Sophomore year of college came by so quickly. Besides the amazing summer I have had, my time spent here so far has been nothing short of powerful. Full transparency, moving in was FAR from easy, but I am content with my room and who I have been placed with. Moving into this new space carries a special energy filled with sisterhood, motivation, inspiration, and it’s unmatched. Going into this second year of college, I am officially a chemistry major. It’s hard, but being stressed out at a school like this is something I am beyond grateful for. I have been trying new things, and when they are set in stone, I will be quick to share them with you all.
🫘Eating + Wellness Check-In
My eating habits have not been the best since Grenada. While I was out of the country, carbs were very big in my meals; one thing I can say is you will never have trouble finding bread in Grenada. Being away from my blog also disrupted the way I view myself when I do eat what I restrict myself from. I created this blog not only to spread awareness but to be a haven for those of us who have trouble finding resources and developing an understanding of our bodies. Since I’ve been back at school, I have tried to be more consistent, cutting off the carbs, but eating in the cafe can only get you so far. In Grenada, rice, bread, and starches are served with almost everything, but I will say sardines came in a clutch. It is also hard to fast on vacation because we are always moving around. Although feeling guilty about what I was eating, I did not let that take the joy out of the country I was in, and it goes the same for being at school. Lately, I have been eating more beef and veggies (my cafeteria doesn’t serve fish products very often), but intermittent fasting has been easier to do in the mornings. Overall, staying consistent but also allowing myself grace and eating enjoyable foods has been important to me.
🙋🏽♀️What’s Next
I’m back to writing, back to creating, and back to sharing this journey with you. Between life at Spelman, wellness tips, and reflections, there’s so much I’m excited to post. Thank you for sticking with me, I’m so glad to be back. 💕
