Day 5: Greener Days My Earth Week Journal
When I first heard the word sauerkraut, I wrinkled my nose. Sour, fermented cabbage? Didn’t sound like something I’d ever place on my daily menu. But funny enough, this humble, tangy food has quickly and quietly become one of my biggest allies in healing my body with PCOS.
Sauerkraut is more than just a topping for sandwiches, it’s a natural powerhouse for gut health.
Since 70–80% of our immune system lives in the gut, and gut health plays a huge role in hormone balance, adding naturally fermented foods like sauerkraut has made a difference I can feel. With every crunchy bite, I’m giving my body probiotics that help reduce inflammation, balance my blood sugar, and even support better digestion, all crucial in managing PCOS symptoms.
I wasn’t super in tune with the taste at first.. (The sourness caught me off guard.) But now, tossing a spoonful of sauerkraut onto my salads, avocado toast or even just tasting a spoonful, feels like second nature, a small ritual of care for my hormones, my health, and myself.
Sometimes healing comes from the most unexpected places. And sometimes, it tastes just a little bit sour.
Gut health = hormone health. If you’re looking for simple ways to support your PCOS naturally, don’t be afraid to explore foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, or kefir, your body might just thank you.
Fermentation is everywhere, always. It is an everyday miracle, the path of least resistance. – Anonymous.
